Blending Live Action and Digital worlds
After several years of creative partnerships, Spotify engaged the team at Vidico to produce our most ambitious collaboration yet – a hybrid live-action/VFX campaign highlighting the cross-platform power of Spotify Video Ads.
The concept centred on a dreamlike cloud world that gradually bleeds into our main character’s reality.
To bring the idea to life, the team used a hybrid in-camera and VFX approach. A practical “cloud world” was handcrafted on set using Poly-Fil, paper lanterns, and Christmas lights, then digitally extended and enhanced in post-production to create a surreal, atmospheric environment.
My contribution focused on both creative and technical execution. I was involved in developing the concept and planning the practical production design, and served as the on-set VFX supervisor. I also coordinated closely with Vidico’s remote post-production team across multiple time zones to achieve the final ethereal look and feel.
The finished piece showcases how practical filmmaking techniques and visual effects can work together to create a distinctive and immersive visual story.
